GSA Expands AI Vendor Portfolio: Adds OpenAI, Renews Google and Anthropic

The US General Services Administration formalised new and extended enterprise agreements for AI services, integrating OpenAI while renewing partnerships with Google and Anthropic.

The US federal government continues to expand its procurement strategy for artificial intelligence services. This approach emphasises a multi-vendor environment for generative AI solutions across agencies. The General Services Administration (GSA) recently formalised several key agreements supporting this direction.

Google has extended its 'OneGov' enterprise deal with the GSA. This agreement provides access to Google's Gemini models for government agencies. The extension builds on previous collaborations to supply AI capabilities to the federal sector.

Similarly, Anthropic secured an extension to its existing enterprise agreement with the GSA. This renewal ensures continued availability of Anthropic's Claude models for federal use. These extensions reflect ongoing demand for diverse AI large language models within government operations.

In a new development, OpenAI has also established an enterprise agreement with the GSA. This deal introduces OpenAI's models, including GPT-4 and its successor series, into the federal procurement framework. The inclusion of OpenAI further diversifies the AI tools available to government entities.

The GSA's contracting mechanism for these agreements focuses on enterprise-level access. This allows agencies to integrate various AI models into their workflows. The multi-vendor strategy aims to provide choice and avoid reliance on a single provider for critical AI infrastructure. These agreements permit agencies to select models based on specific mission requirements. The GSA facilitates secure deployment and management of these AI services. How will this diversified access influence agency-specific AI adoption rates?
