Nscale Secures £2.65B for Global AI Compute Infrastructure
Nscale has raised significant capital, including £790M from NVIDIA, to expand its global AI infrastructure supporting advanced models.
Nscale, a specialist in global AI cloud infrastructure, has secured $3.36 billion (£2.65 billion) through pre-IPO convertible notes. This funding will facilitate the construction of new data centres. These facilities are designed to support advanced AI models and related workloads.
Key investors participated in this round. NVIDIA contributed $1 billion (£790 million) of the total investment. Other significant contributors include institutions based in London and New York. This financing structure involves convertible notes, which typically convert to equity at a later date, often tied to a public offering.
The capital infusion supports Nscale's strategy to deploy next-generation AI compute clusters. The company plans to integrate NVIDIA's GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchips. These superchips are central to NVIDIA's latest generation of AI hardware. The infrastructure will also feature NVIDIA's Spectrum-X Ethernet platform, designed for high-performance AI operations.
Nscale's expansion strategy aims to offer robust compute resources to a diverse client base. This includes AI start-ups and large enterprise customers. The new data centres will be strategically located across North America, Europe, and Asia. These locations are selected to provide geographically distributed, high-capacity AI processing capabilities.
Deployment of the GB200 systems is scheduled to commence later in 2024. These deployments are integral to Nscale’s long-term growth. The company anticipates delivering scalable, high-performance computing necessary for training and deploying large language models and other complex AI applications. The capital raise underscores the increasing demand for specialised AI compute infrastructure globally. The investment from NVIDIA signifies a strategic alignment with a leading AI hardware provider.
Will this investment accelerate the widespread adoption of next-generation AI models?
